OSAKA - Japan's Daikin Industries, one of the world's top air conditioner makers, is expected to report its highest net profit ever for the year ended March 31 thanks to strong sales of energy-efficient models in North America and Europe, Nikkei has learned.

Group net profit likely rose about 40% from the previous year to roughly 215 billion yen ($1.65 billion), topping the company's forecast of 210 billion yen.

This would mark the first record profit in four years for Daikin, which has absorbed the impact of rising materials and transport costs, putting it in good position for further earnings growth this fiscal year.

Sales likely grew 25% to about 3.1 trillion yen, for the first result above 3 trillion yen, compared with Daikin's guidance of 3.05 trillion yen.
